Botox

If you've ever looked in the mirror and noticed lines around your eyes when you smile (crow's feet), vertical lines between your eyebrows that make you look angry (glabella), or horizontal lines taking over your forehead, then botulinum toxin may be the answer that you are looking for to erase those unwanted lines. Botulinum toxin is known more commonly as Botox. Dysport is another brand of the same product. Both of these are simple, non-surgical ways to smooth the deep, persistent lines of the upper part of the face. Botox or Dysport can be used in the lower face as well, though dermal fillers are often more appropriate.
Tiny injections relax the muscles that grow larger from overuse. As those muscles grow, the lines between the muscles become more apparent. When the muscles are relaxed, the lines fade, leaving a smoother, more youthful appearance. The effects of Dysport and Botox can last up to eight months, and can be repeated as often as necessary to maintain the improved appearance. Through the years, research has shown that Botox can be used for many other purposes such as treatment of excessive sweating, prevention of migraines, relaxation of twitchy eyes, and in patients with spastic muscles.

Botox/Dysport treatments can typically be done in less than 20 minutes and there is virtually no down time. Patients may expect to be slightly red in the treated areas for an hour or two after the injections. Though it is rare, occasionally, slight bruising may occur as well. This effect is easily treated with cold ice packs. Most patients are able to return to work or other activities with no one able to tell that the procedure has been done. While the immediate appearance is not altered, neither is the desired effect immediately evident. It takes approximately seven to 14 days for the medication to become completely active. It is important to understand that at the Skin Wellness Center of Alabama, Dr. Hartman always uses Botox or Dysport that was made for use here in the United States. Our priority is your safety and pleasure with the cosmetic result of this elective treatment.
