SculptraThere is now a cosmetic procedure that provides a way to achieve the results of a facelift without going under the knife. Sculptra is the newest member of the dermal filler family and offers a unique opportunity that the other fillers do not.
![]() ![]() A typical treatment course of Sculptra consists of three sessions spaced every six weeks. The drug works in a novel way that stimulates a patient's own collagen. Over time, patients notice that the drug continues to work, even after all sessions have been completed. Complete correction may not be apparent for six months after the treatment course is completed. This unique characteristic also means that Sculptra injections are known to last up to two years. The most common side effects associated with Sculptra injections are bruising, discomfort and formation of small bumps in the skin. These bumps disappear with vigorous massage. Unlike collagen, Sculptra injections require no allergy testing prior to the procedure being performed, however, any patient with a known allergy to lactic acid should not be treated with Sculptra. The discomfort associated with the procedure is eased by a strong topical numbing agent, ice packs and lidocaine mixed into the Sculptra itself. It is important to understand that at the Skin Wellness Center of Alabama, Dr. Hartman always uses Sculptra that was made for use here in the United States. Our priority is your safety and pleasure with the cosmetic result of this elective treatment. Related Articles
