Uses and Side Effects of Facial Fillers

Dermal fillers are a great way to quickly and easily get a fresher face.  Wrinkles, lines and scars are lessened with the administration of dermal filler injections.  This procedure can have you looking younger in the time it takes to eat a meal, and they are extremely affordable for those looking for a temporary way to freshen up their aging faces.

Luckily, facial fillers can be safely used by any patient. Patients with fine lines, wrinkles, or shallow scars maybe more interested in having the procedure performed, however. Due to the safe nature of the products that are currently on the market, it is safe for any patient to have the procedure performed. It is important to note that under normal circumstances, facial fillers are not considered a medically necessary procedure and are therefore not covered on most insurance policies. However, the results are well worth the slight discomfort and the financial considerations, and provide effective correction for fine lines and wrinkles that may worry you.

As with most medical procedures, there are a few side effects associated with the administration of a dermal filler. Though there may be slight discomfort associated with the procedure while it is performed, it should not be long lasting.  Afterwards, the skin will appear red at the site of the injection. The redness may last for several hours or several days. Additionally, slight bruising may occur at the areas that are injected. The bruising can be alleviated by applying cold compresses to the area and avoiding sun exposure.

Sometimes small lumps may appear under the skin after the injections are performed. This occurs if the product is placed too superficially. The patient can get rid of these small bumps by massaging the area as directed by the dermatologist after the procedure.   Another commend complain is the swelling the may occur immediately after the procedure.  However, this swelling typically results within three to four days. Applying ice packs to the area can also help decrease the appearance of any swelling that may occur.
